ASHISH: Fall In Love And Be More Tender
Until 10th September 2023
As a leading voice in the creative industry, Ashish is renowned for his commitment to inclusion and equitable representation. His upcoming exhibition, which spotlights his Autumn Winter 2017 collection, “The Yellow Brick Road,” draws inspiration from the iconic film “The Wizard of Oz” and explores migration and cultural identity through fashion.
At the heart of Ashish’s design philosophy is a dedication to handcrafting skills and techniques, such as embroidery, showcased in each individual sequin hand-sewn by highly skilled artisans at Ashish’s workshop in Delhi. The exhibition at the William Morris Gallery celebrates the artisanship, adornment, and thoughtful production processes at the core of Ashish’s work.
The exhibition also features a major new commission by Ashish Shah, a Mumbai-based photographer and filmmaker who brings a decolonizing perspective to his work. His film and photography commission, shot on location in India and London, explores the intricacy of global movement and the complex cultural relationships between India and the West, offering a new and exciting language of image-making.
With a focus on diversity and creativity, Ashish’s work and philosophy challenge preconceived notions of cultural identity and belonging. By incorporating SEO keywords such as inclusion, equitable representation, cultural identity, and diversity, this exhibition is poised to attract a broader audience to engage with the power of fashion and design to shape our understanding of the world around us.
